Big Bend/Terlingua, Day 3

Today we got an earlier start after a blessedly calm night. We took off west down route 170 toward Presidio, Tx which was about 60 miles away on the Mexican border. Most of the route was through the Big Bend STATE Park (as opposed to the National Park that we visited over the last two days.) It was a beautiful ride but wow, I don't know why anyone would take an RV down that road! There were 15% grades and so many dips that we literally felt like we were on a roller coaster ride. Great fun (without the rig!)

Much of the road runs along the Rio Grande river which is also serves as the border between the US and Mexico.

We stopped at a movie set called "Contrabandos" where all the adobe buildings are actually fabricated from chicken wire, fiberglass, and mud. There were three movies filmed here: Lonesome Dove and two others that I can't remember.

We made our way through the humble town of Presidio.... Ok, this is quite a dismal place and honestly I would not go back. And then we turned around and headed back to our "RV home away from home."

We always have a "favorite moment" of each day and todays was the ROAD RUNNER, who posed so cutely for our cameras. The boys have been wanting to see one up close and personal and this one really cooperated.

The other favorite bird is the PERIGRINE FALCON, which are very common here. We got back to the rig early today and spent the rest of the afternoon and evening kicking back reading and relaxing.

By the way, the picture of the yellow flowers and cactus are Dave's! He takes some beautiful pictures of flowers, everywhere we go! Who would have thunk?

Another day in paradise!
