Goodbye, Big Bend!

Mama here.
With mixed feelings we decided to move on Sunday, Feb 2nd. What a great four days we had here! We saw both the "purple mountain majesty" and saw "where the deer and the antelope play." This National Park is just beautiful.
Terlingua is made up of an interesting people. There is more community, culture, etc. going on here than I have seen in some big cities! You hear of quite famous people "hiding out" here. People come here to be anonymous and free. We spent a few hours in a coffee shop. Politics, the latest play that is being rehearsed, prices of gas, book reviews...a couple of hours and I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of community happenings. This is a group of independent, free thinkers for sure.

We pulled out and headed north on 118, back through Alpine and Fort Davis. We crossed I-10 and I-20 heading north to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Today (mon) we are heading into the Carlsbad Caverns and to some water falls in the area. Check back later and we will add some pics! Here's a cute one we saw in this week's US News & World Report (2/11/08, p. 16).
